How long do hair extensions last?
You have to distinguish between the lifespan of the extension itself and the time you can wear the extensions until they have to be removed or reattached.
The lifespan of professional hair extensions depends on the type, the quality and how well they are maintained and reattached.
Feather Hair Extensions and Tape-In Hair Extensions have a very long lifespan up to 2-3 years if they are attached and removed properly by a professional hair extension specialist. Due to their nature they have a little to no wear. Micro-Ring Hair Extensions or Nano Hair Extensions on the contrary have a shorter lifespan.
The reapplication time for all the semi permanent hair extensions is between 2 and 4 moths depending on your hair type.
Please note that this information is highly dependent on your hair type and the care of the extensions. Let us consult you on this topic.
What type of hair extensions exist?
There is a whole variety of hair extensions, which are also named differently. Basically, the different types can be divided into two categories, bonded or glued and unglued. Furthermore, some hair extensions are fitted with the aid of heat.
The most common types are listed here. If you would like more information about the different types of human hair extensions we offer, please see our detailed overview here.
The most common hair extension types which are attached with glue are Tape-In extensions and Nano extensions with I-Tip or U-Tip.
The extension types that do not require any form of glue are Clip-In Extensions, Sew-In or Weft Extensions, Halo Extensions, Micro-Ring Extensions and last but not least our most prefered and recommended extensions are the Feather Hair Extensions.
What is the difference between Remy, Human and Virgin hair?
There is a great deal of confusion about these terms. First of all, remy and virgin hair is both human hair.
Remy hair is hair where the cuticles, the outermost layer of a hair strand which is formed of dead cells that overlap, are kept intact and facing the same direction, they are not stripped, which is what happens in most other non-remy human hair extensions. By keeping the hairs’ cuticles, and aligning them to go in the same direction, the hair keeps its natural appearance. Remy hair commonly comes from a donor who is paid for their natural hair, and it is usually cut from a pony tail to preserve the cuticles in the right direction.
The term virgin, usually in conjunction with remy-virgin, refers to hair that has never undergone a chemical process such as bleaching or coloring, and thus represents the highest quality of hair, also resulting in a higher price.
How often should I wash my hair with attached extensions?
The recommended frequency for washing hair extensions depends on various factors, including your hair type, lifestyle, and the specific type of extensions you have. Generally, it is advisable to wash your extensions once a week. However, it’s essential to follow the specific care instructions provided by us. Some extensions may benefit from less frequent washing to preserve their longevity and appearance.
Can I sleep with my hair extensions?
Absolutly, sleeping with hair extensions is safe and comfortable. However, tying your hair in a loose braid or ponytail is advisable to prevent tangling. Investing in a silk or satin pillowcase can minimize friction and keep your extensions looking fabulous in the morning.
Can I go swimming or do sports with hair extensions?
You should be careful with hair extensions that have been attached with the help of adhesives, especially if you want to go swimming. The compounds could be dissolved by the water, especially chlorinated water.
Swimming is safe with all other extensions, especially with feather hair extensions, which is why we expressly recommend this type of hair extensions.
Can I brush my hair extensions while they are still wet?
It’s best to avoid brushing your hair extensions while they’re wet to prevent any unnecessary breakage or damage. Instead, gently towel-dry your hair and allow it to air dry partially before using a wide-toothed comb or a specialized extension brush to detangle the extensions.
Will my hair grow faster with extensions or will it ever grow back after extensions?
On average, hair grows between 0.8 and 1.25 cm per month … whether you have extensions attached, use caffeine shampoos or other “miracle products”.
To influence hair growth, you would have to intervene in the organism (genetic material, cell division, hair loop) … and that would be a medical or surgical intervention or a pharmaceutical treatment/cure, the possible side effects of which (if such a cure existed) you would certainly not want to experience.
So your hair growth is not influenced by any kind of hair extensions.
How many times can I wash my hair extensions?
Can hair extensions damage my natural hair?
When installed correctly and maintained properly, hair extensions shouldn’t cause any damage to your natural hair. Choosing a skilled stylist is essential. Maintaining a good hair care routine and avoiding excessive heat and chemical treatments can help preserve your hair.
What if my hair extensions get tangled?
If your hair extensions become tangled, don’t worry—this is a common issue and can be easily managed with the right care. Here’s what you can do:
- Gently Detangle: Start by gently detangling your hair using a wide-toothed comb or a special detangling brush. Begin at the ends and work your way up to the roots to minimize pulling and damage.
- Avoid Wet Brushing: Hair extensions are more fragile when wet, so avoid brushing them immediately after washing. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water and allow them to air dry before detangling.
- Braid Before Bed: To prevent tangling while you sleep, loosely braid your hair or secure it in a low ponytail. Using a silk or satin pillowcase can also reduce friction and help keep your extensions smooth.
- Regular Maintenance: Regularly brushing your extensions throughout the day will help prevent tangles from forming. Make sure to use a brush designed for extensions to avoid unnecessary pulling and damage.
If tangling persists despite following these tips, it might be worth revisiting the care routine or consulting with us for further advice. Proper maintenance and gentle handling are key to keeping your hair extensions looking their best.
Can I reuse my hair extensions?
Yes, many types of hair extensions can be reused. Feather hair and Clip-in extensions are particularly user-friendly, designed for easy removal and reinstallation, which makes them highly reusable. Additionally, tape-in and nano-ring extensions can also be reused, although this largely depends on their quality and condition after removal. Proper care and maintenance play a crucial role in ensuring the longevity and reusability of these extensions.
Do hair extensions set off the alarm at airport checkpoints?
Some hair extensions are attached with the help of clips or metal rings. When passing through the security checks carried out with the classic metal detectors, it could trigger an alarm. In this case, simply let the security officer know and it will be checked manually. There should be no problems with the more modern body scanners.
What does the Quran say about hair extensions?
The Quran itself does not explicitly mention hair extensions. However, Islamic teachings and rulings regarding personal adornment and modification are derived from the Hadiths (sayings and practices of Prophet Muhammad) and the interpretations of Islamic scholars.
In general, most Islamic scholars agree that wearing hair extensions made from human hair is not permissible. This is based on Hadiths where the Prophet Muhammad cursed those who use hair extensions and those who provide them:
- Sahih al-Bukhari: “The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the woman who adds false hair and the one who asks for it” (Book 72, Hadith 822).
The reasoning is that using human hair in extensions involves altering the creation of Allah, which is discouraged. Additionally, it can be seen as an act of deception.
However, there are differing opinions on using synthetic hair extensions or natural fibers that do not involve human hair. Some scholars allow these under the condition that they do not involve deception (e.g., falsely representing the hair as one’s own).
For specific rulings, it’s recommended to consult with a knowledgeable Islamic scholar who can provide guidance based on individual circumstances and the prevailing school of thought.
